  • About Sports Massage Therapist | London N21 | Lorna Hetherington Massage

About Me I believe what sets me apart from other therapists is my understanding of sporting injuries and medical conditions and how best to aid rehabilitation from these. This has been gained by more than 18 years working and training alongside experienced physiotherapists at Sprint Physiotherapy , a highly regarded clinic in Kensington, treating many clients pre/post operatively and in conjunction with their physiotherapy treatment. Whilst I take on board latest research and evidence and apply it in my approach, I am also an intuitive therapist and 'listen to what my fingers tell me' to help ease pain and restriction in the body. I find the human body fascinating and get tremendous satisfaction from helping my clients feel better. I originally qualified with my diploma at the renowned London School of Sports Massage (LSSM) in 2006 and undertake additional postgraduate courses every year to further my training and deepen my knowledge of the human body. I was also fortunate enough to be selected to provide pre/post event massage in the Polyclinic at London 2012 Paralympics. An amazing experience that exposed me to athletes from all over the world in events from judo to wheelchair basketball, weightlifting to long jump. Prior to retraining as a massage therapist I worked in the stressful world of marketing and advertising, so fully understand the physical and mental pressures of being deskbound for many hours every day. I work from my home massage studio in Palmers Green, N13 covering the local areas of Winchmore Hill, Grange Park, N21, Southgate, Oakwood, N14, Bounds Green and Enfield, as well as offering home visits in these areas. I am fully insured and a member of the Institute of Sports & Remedial Massage . My philosophy Massage is not a luxury, it is essential to maintain your mental & physical well-being.

  • Pregnancy Massage | Palmers Green, London | Lorna Hetherington Massage

Pregnancy & Post-natal Massage Nurture yourself & your bump Pregnancy is a magical time but the exciting changes in your body can also leave you in discomfort. The shifting centre of gravity as your bump grows can lead to lower back pain, sciatica, hip pain, and shoulder pain, amongst other areas. Water retention as your pregnancy progresses can also result in swollen legs, ankles and feet. As a new mum, you may also be suffering from sore neck and shoulders as a result of breastfeeding or just gazing adoringly at your little one, and hand and wrist issues are also common with lifting an ever increasing weight continuously every day. I am a mum of two, so I understand the effects pregnancy can have on you and the importance of looking after yourself physically. I perform pregnancy massage with you lying on your side, with plenty of pillows to support you and ensure your comfort. Due to the level of the hormone relaxin in the body, a pregnancy massage isn't quite as deep as a remedial massage, but you will be left feeling soothed and relieved of tension and aches. I can incorporate manual lymphatic drainage massage into the treatment if you are suffering from puffy legs. You can also treat a friend or family member to a pregnancy massage by buying a gift voucher for them. Get in Touch Local pregnancy & post-natal services

Spinal Mobilisation & Manipulation I am trained in the osteopathic technique of mobilisation and manipulation of the spinal vertebrae to relieve stiffness and tension. Often you may feel like your back has 'locked' and your movement can be severely limited. I use gentle mobilisation or firmer manipulation of the joints in the back, in conjunction with soft tissue work, to help restore your range of motion and ease the pain you may be feeling in relation to spinal or joint stiffness. • Covid-19 protocols | Website

Covid-19 Protocols I have taken every effort to ensure my business is as Covid-secure as possible. I allow longer between appointments to clean all surfaces touched by the previous client and to ventilate the treatment room. Face masks are currently no longer required but may be reintroduced if Covid infection rates increase or during winter flu season. Of course, should you prefer to wear a mask or request that I wear one (particularly in the case of immuno-suppressed clients) please feel free to do so. I do ask that if you have any form of cold/flu virus that you postpone your appointment until you are feeling better. Massage treatment when you have a cold/flu can make you feel worse and prolong your recovery and also increases the risk of infecting others. If you are due to have a Covid or flu vaccination, please allow 48 hours after your vaccination before coming for treatment in case you experience any side effects. If you require any further information about my Covid protocols please feel free to contact me.

Reviews View all Google reviews See what my clients say about me... "Frozen shoulder, who would have thought that was a thing? Well, it is a very real thing and painful to boot. The doctor prescribed me some painkillers and told me to find a real good physio or massage therapist to work on it. That person turned out to be Lorna Hetherington. One session, one massage and five acupuncture needles in the shoulder later and it was back in working order. I now make a point of seeing Lorna every half term to massage my shoulder and de-stress my neck and back. As a teacher working in a stressful school, these sessions keep me sane and keep my body on top of its game. ” Paul M “I have suffered chronic back and neck pain for 50 years. I have endured, over the years, many treatments (eg; osteopathy, chiropractic, physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage etc;) but the most effective and long lasting relief I ever experience is after being treated by the magic, healing hands & needles of experienced Sports Massage Therapist Lorna Hetherington. Her expertise, knowledge and calm professional manner cannot be equalled - I cannot recommend her highly enough and Lorna is always my first choice for pain relief treatment.” David H “I have known Lorna for over 10 years, having met on the same Sports & Remedial Massage course, at the LSSM training college. Over those years I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Lorna develop into a top class therapist. She has a wealth of knowledge and always listens, which ensures she provides the best course of treatment. I have participated in several running events from 10k up to Ultra distance and Lorna is always the first therapist I would contact for a treatment. She is more than a masseuse, as she uses an array of techniques to treat the body. I would highly recommend Lorna to anyone who is looking to improve their body health, well-being and sports performance!” "Magic fingers – healing hands" make such a huge difference to the well-being of a tired, recuperating or aching body!! Allow yourself to be renewed and rejuvenated by the skillful and effective treatment offered by Lorna." Lizette D Michael B "I've been Lorna's client for over a decade. I've punished my body extensively during that time - I've cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats, run the London Marathon, played fairly high standard hockey & golf and weekly bootcamp fitness punishment. I've also suffered the same hip injury and subsequent operation as Andy Murray. Lorna has aided my recovery and allowed me to carry on longer than I could have hoped. I firmly believe a sports massage therapist is a vitally important part of any serious training programme and recovery regime. Yours should be Lorna Hetherington!" Dan M "As an aerialist and physical performer, it is very important for me to look after my body. I came to Lorna with several problems in my shoulders and upper back. She is incredibly knowledgeable and knows exactly what to do to help me with tightness and muscle spasms, getting rid of knots and pain. During our first session she offered me acupuncture in addition to the massage. I had never tried it before and it worked so well that it is now part of every treatment. Lorna is fantastic and I highly recommend her!" Malik I "I've known Lorna for many years now and she is excellent at what she does. She not only listens to what you want but also gets to know your body well, areas of weakness and where improvements are required. I've seen Lorna on many occasions, especially when I was training intensely, which included boot camp, personal training and cycling. When I was pregnant I also saw Lorna when I dislocated my rib. She provided me with good care and eased the discomfort I was experiencing. Lorna comes highly recommended, as she is friendly, professional and has vast experience in her field, thus look no further." Jes M "After my knee replacement Lorna really improved the swelling on my leg and I am now able to walk better. I still do the massage round my scar that she taught me to do and it really is helping. I would certainly recommend that you give Lorna a try, as I am sure you will benefit from her treatment and advice." Doreen O

  • Sports & Remedial Massage | N13 London | Lorna Hetherington Massage

Sports & Remedial Massage Ease your muscles I originally trained in sports and remedial massage, but I am essentially a soft tissue therapist dealing with issues related to the muscles, tendons and fascia within the body. I use a variety of techniques, including myofascial release, soft tissue release, muscle energy technique, positional release technique and trigger point release, alongside more traditional effleurage and stretches to relieve tension in muscles and promote freedom of movement. I may also use medical acupuncture and spinal mobilisation or manipulation if required to achieve the best result. If your aches and pains are from poor posture, sitting at a desk all day, or just getting older and dealing with other health issues, then a regular massage will ease the niggling pains and help you move more comfortably. It is also hugely beneficial after surgery and I have many years of experience dealing with reducing swelling and improving range of motion post-operatively for knee replacements and ligament repairs such as ACL/MCL reconstructions, hip replacements, shoulder surgeries (rotator cuff repairs, shoulder replacement) and back operations. For those who play sport regularly or are training for an event, a sports massage can help minimise injuries, improve your recovery times and help keep you in optimum condition. I have successfully treated many marathon runners, triathletes, cyclists, golfers, tennis players and footballers, but also have experience of other sports such as shooting, horse-riding, climbing and ballet. I was also selected to provide massage to international athletes at the London 2012 Paralympics and have provided pre/post event massage at both the British Triathlon and the London Bike Ride. Many of my clients see me for specific issues; anything from neck pain to tight hamstrings or shoulder problems, but I will often treat other related areas as well. The body is an integrated whole and everything is ultimately connected, so releasing restrictions in another area can have surprising effects on the main problem. I am a highly skilled soft tissue therapist and adjust pressure to the requirements and preference of each client. I incorporate breath work to help you relax during treatment and achieve the best results possible. See my reviews page for a selection of testimonials from my clients or to see my Google reviews.
